Fiji Locally-Managed Marine Area Network

The Fiji Locally Managed Marine Area (FLMMA) is a national network that connects over 400 communities and government, academic institutions, and NGOs to promote encourage the preservation, protection, and sustainable use of marine resources in Fiji.

Since establishing in 2001, FLMMA has guided the establishment 135 customary fishing areas and 465 fishing reserves or tabu areas. Ongoing activities include providing information and resources and training in management planning, fisheries management monitoring, and community facilitation.
